For nearly four decades, The Rebirth Brass Band has redefined what it means to bring the vibrant spirit of New Orleans music to the world. Founded in 1983 by brothers Phil and Keith Frazier along with their friend Kermit Ruffins straight out of playing together in Tremé's Joseph Clark High School marching band, they revolutionized the traditional brass band sound by blending heavy second-line rhythms with funk, soul, R&B, and hip-hop.

The band quickly became a sensation, blending the traditional brass sounds of the Big Easy with modern funk, jazz, soul, and hip-hop influences. What began as a group of high school musicians performing on the streets of New Orleans has now evolved into a world-renowned musical force.

From their earliest gigs at the now-legendary Maple Leaf Bar to Grammy Award-winning recordings, The Rebirth Brass Band continues to push the boundaries of brass music. In 2012, the band received the Grammy Award for Best Regional Roots Music Album for "Rebirth of New Orleans," solidifying their place as both guardians of tradition and pioneers of innovation. Since then they have collaborated with major acts like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Roots, Green Day, and a slew of star hip-hop MCs.

Their sound is a seamless blend of second-line rhythms and energetic brass arrangements that resonate with audiences young and old. Whether performing at Mardi Gras parades, festivals like Jazz Fest, or on international stages, The Rebirth Brass Band brings an unmatched energy that compels every listener to dance.

Yet, band’s influence extends beyond their music. They’ve been featured in HBO’s hit series Tremé, highlighting their critical role in the cultural fabric of New Orleans. Despite international fame, The Rebirth Brass Band remains deeply rooted in their hometown, continuing to perform weekly at the Maple Leaf Bar, a testament to their commitment to the local community and their musical origins. With a lineup that has evolved over the years, including collaborations with legendary musicians, The Rebirth Brass Band maintains its signature infectious energy. Their music honors the heritage of New Orleans while fearlessly embracing new sounds, making them a bridge between past and present in the world of brass band music.

Experience Rebirth's hometown Tuesday night residency at this new Central City neighborhood music venue, a continuation of their famed weekly they held for years formerly at uptown's Maple Leaf Bar.

Legendary Welsh singer and performer Tom Jones continues to sustain his popularity around the world, captivating audiences with his timeless discography of hit songs and enduring talent and charisma. With a remarkable career spanning over six decades, Jones is widely considered to be one of the greatest singers and recording artists of all time, selling over 100 million records and continuing as an esteemed and influential figure in the music industry.

At the age of 85, Jones has received some of the best reviews of his career for his most recent Ethan Johns-produced albums Surrounded By Time, Long Lost Suitcase, Spirit In The Room, and Praise & Blame. Critics have praised both the recorded material and Jones' performances, highlighting his undeniable and unique talent in both the studio and on stage.

Born in the mining town of Pontypridd, South Wales, Jones quit school at an early age, working various odd jobs before getting his start as a member of a local band called The Senators, later forming his own group, Tom Jones and the Squires, gigging in clubs and pubs around the local area.

In the early 1960s, he signed with Decca Records in London, kickstarting a successful and diverse career and achieving international fame with his powerful voice and dynamic stage presence. He had a string of hit songs including It's Not Unusual, What's New Pussycat?, Delilah, and Green, Green Grass of Home which sat alongside his hugely popular 1969-1971 cross-continental TV show, This is Tom Jones. Jones has always had a fundamental interest in a wide range of music, leading him to work with dozens of iconic collaborators over the years, ranging from Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin to Van Morrison, Dolly Parton and Ed Sheeran, just some amongst many. Although he is well known for his hits, he is first and foremost a diverse artist with a true rhythm and blues soul.

Jones's career has been filled with numerous honors and accolades, including a deeply cherished knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 2006, multiple BRIT Awards, a Silver Clef Award, the prestigious Music Industry Trusts Award and a Hitmaker Award from the US Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has also acted in films such as Tim Burton's Mars Attacks, and Playhouse Presents: King of The Teds for Sky Arts. Along with his yearly touring, Jones has continued to be active in the industry as a longstanding coach on The Voice UK and being a valued contributor at a variety of events and broadcasts such as the 25th Anniversary of MusiCares (honouring Bob Dylan) and the 57th Grammy Awards as well as many others for charitable causes. His recent autobiography Over The Top And Back was a rollicking best-seller, and his 2021 album release Surrounded By Time made him the oldest male to claim a Number 1 spot on the UK Official Albums Chart with an album of new material, overtaking Bob Dylan.

Sir Tom has indeed cemented his place in music history as one of the most successful artists of all time, traversing musical eras and genres, cutting across class divides, and appealing to all genders and ages, mainstream and cutting edge. Sir Tom has always been about the power of the song, and the power of the voice, qualities that have made him a true legend in the music zeitgeist. Despite the passage of time, Sir Tom Jones continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the music world, and his legacy will undoubtedly live on for generations to come.

Alune Wade: A Family Affair celebrates the release of the new album by Senegalese bassist and composer Alune Wade in collaboration with the Neighborhood Story Project.

Building on the acclaimed New African Orleans (2025), which drew widespread praise for its fluid dialogue between West African traditions, contemporary jazz, and Louisiana heritage, Family Affair has the feel of a reunion. Alune’s band brings together a remarkable constellation of musicians: artists from Benin, French Guiana, and Réunion Island are joined on stage by musicians and poet Sunni Patterson from New Orleans. Sunday, October 11th is a rare opportunity to witness this musical family live — a genuine cultural event, not just a concert, but a living, breathing fusion—Africa and the bayou, side by side, equal and electric.

Rooted in both memory and contemporary dialogue, the concert also celebrates the release of the bilingual art book, A Family Affair: Conversations Across the Atlantic (Breunlin and Wade, University of New Orleans Press 2026). Both the album and the book will be available for sale at the venue.

BAND LINE-UP:

Alune Wade (Lead vocal and bass | Senegal)
Sunni Patterson (Vocals | New Orleans)
Tonya Boyd-Cannon (Vocals | New Orleans) ~ JGI New Orleans 2026 Jazz Cohort Fellow
Alix Goffic (Drums | French Guiana)
Cedric Duchemann (Keyboard | Reunion Island)
Harry Ahonlonsou (Saxophone | Benin)
Corey Henry (Trombone | New Orleans)
Kirk Joseph (Sousaphone | New Orleans)
David McKissick (Trumpet | New Orleans)

Opening the show: Max Moran is a Louisiana born musician and composer who has become a first-call bassist across several genres in New Orleans’ thriving music scene. Known for his versatility on electric bass, upright bass, and synthesizer, Moran provides a solid, soulful foundation to a number of classic and progressive bands. Performing since the age of thirteen, Max Moran spent over ten years as the bassist for jazz master Donald Harrison and has also shared the stage with artists such as Davell Crawford, Leo Nocentelli (The Meters), Bernie Worrell (Parliament/ Funkadelic), and Grammy nominees Chief Adjuah (Christian Scott) and Jamison Ross.

‍
Moran also co-leads the award winning Bridge Trio along with drummer, Joe Dyson and pianist, Conun Pappas. The Bridge Trio has performed at prestigious venues such as The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, has released two self-produced albums, and has received awards from National Public Radio. Max was selected as a Jazz Generations Initiative (JGI) 2026 Jazz Cohort Fellow, and will be releasing his 4th studio album on December 12th, 2026.

Tonight, Max Moran presents his band the Max Moran Trio to warm up the stage.
