Much of the saxophonist-composer Matana Roberts’s work across the past decade-plus has fallen under the umbrella of Coin Coin, her multi-part magnum opus, which channels family history into a cinematic avant-jazz epic. For this week’s Stone residency, she’s focusing on a more spontaneous undertaking, the Cinder Sessions, a series of shows featuring local improvisers on the vanguard, including the trumpeter Chris Ryan Williams, the cellist Lester St. Louis, the drummer Ryan Sawyer and a special guest to be revealed at showtime each night.
