During his 50-year career, the trombonist and composer Craig Harris has played in large ensembles led by Sun Ra, Muhal Richard Abrams, David Murray and more. Lately, he has been leading a big band of his own at a weekly residency at Harlem’s awe-inspiring 120-year-old Mount Morris Ascension Presbyterian Church, presenting funky, expertly arranged pieces in the vein of Managing the Mask, an underrated gem he released in 2022.
