Released earlier this year, Do the Impossible, a PBS American Masters doc on Sun Ra, arrived right on time, capping a Ra-naissance that has built steadily throughout the 21st century, reaching new peaks lately with various tribute projects and a flurry of activity from the Arkestra itself, under the expert direction of its centenarian leader, Marshall Allen. This matinee program, a satellite presentation of the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, features a screening of the film along with a set led by longtime Arkestra saxophonist James Stewart.
