The pianist Danny Mixon played with legends including Patti LaBelle, Charles Mingus, Art Blakey and Pharoah Sanders across a 60-year career, but he was still underrated at the time of his death this past May. Mixon shared a special bond with the vocalist Antoinette Montague, who honors his legacy at this Jazzmobile-backed gig. “We were a musical marriage who soared with high-power energy, creativity, and love,” Montague said recently of her longtime collaborator.
