MONUMENTAL CHANGE: A Symposium on Memory, Civic Healing, and Public Imagination
Monumental Change: Memory, Civic Healing and Public Imagination is a one-day symposium that brings together artists, scholars, activists, and community leaders to explore how creative expression shapes our collective memory and our vision for the future.
Inspired by the historic removal of Confederate monuments in New Orleans and Richmond (Virginia), the program features thought-provoking conversations, interactive workshops, live music, poetry, and artistic performances that examine these two cities’ shared history and processes of civic healing.
Hosted by the Shockoe Institute and Jazz Generations Initiative New Orleans with support from Xavier University of Louisiana, this unique gathering invites all who are invested in building a more equitable future to engage in dialogue, reflection, and collective imagination.
Monumental Change will feature artists, scholars and change makers — discussing questions surrounding what it means to monumentalize our collective history, how we reckon with the past and what it can mean for the future — each from their own perspectives.

Lunch will be provided for $8. Please register in advance to receive lunch by adding the lunch option to your ticket at the registration link. Xavier University students who attend the symposium will receive a free lunch. *Please bring your student IDs.

AFTERPARTY
After the all-day symposium at Xavier University's Administration Building, join us for the Official Monumental Change Afterparty featuring the New Orleans installment of the Art of the Crossfade at the Music Box Village from 6pm - 10pm where local food pop-ups will be on-site providing dinner and bars open for non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages for sale from 6pm, with program beginning at 7pm. Art of the Crossfade is fueled by The Hearthland Foundation.
