Concert
George Porter Jr. Trio
This is your weekly chance to catch the original bassist from legendary funk pioneers, The Meters, George Porter Jr. in his element, up close and personal, with his own rotating trio of guests at his Monday night residency as he leads an intimate evening of originals, interpretations, and improv jams inside one of the Crescent City's longest running staples for the New Orleans - and the world's - funk lexicon.
Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient George Porter Jr. is a legendary bassist and key figure in the evolution of funk music. In 1965, he joined a band led by Arthur Neville that would become The Meters in 1967, alongside Art Neville, Leo Nocentelli, and Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Porter, now in his late 70s, continues to call the Crescent City home. The Meters' music and funk legacy live on through George Porter Jr. and his bandmates, past, present, and future. George's Monday residency at the Maple Leaf Bar continues with his long time keyboardist, Mike Lemmler, Guitarist Chris Adkins, and the newly introduced Donald Magee on drums.
