Simmering new local project Saigon Jazz Revival presents the second installation of its deep dive into the (often unexpected) connections between Vietnamese Traditional Music and the Black American Music born in the Port of New Orleans on Friday, 7/31 at 3116 Studios. The brainchild of filmmaker and creative director Marion Hoàng Ngọc Hill, SJR hosted 1960s breakout South Vietnam vocal star Carol Kim last November for one sultry night in collaboration with an ensemble of premiere New Orleans jazz musicians. This summer, the heavyweight collective of Oscar Rossignoli, Steve Lands, Cesar Bacaro-Ley, Jafet Perez, Amari Ansari, Nick Salcido, and guest Brian Bùi, collaborates with rising young singer Đồng Lan to explore what happens when Vietnamese song and Latin rhythms meet.
