Charlie & The Tropicales rejuvenate a wide swath of vintage Caribbean sounds, from cumbia, calypso, biguine and son Cubano to rocksteady and New Orleans R&B-inspired rock & roll. Led by trombonist and composer Charlie Halloran, The Tropicales breathe new life into 1950s-era tropical dance pop tunes while introducing new layers of fusion. Think:  “Ruler of My Heart,” rocksteady-style, or Venezuela’s classic joropo “Alma Llanera” spiked with calypso energy.

The New Orleans-based 8-piece ensemble draws inspiration from Cuban son, mambo, and Caribbean music, reimagining traditional forms while honoring their roots, featuring rich horn lines, infectious percussion, and soulful improvisation. Known for high-energy performances and deep rhythmic feel, The Tropicales have become a standout presence in the New Orleans music scene, bringing tropical flavor and modern jazz sensibility to audiences near and far.
