Mbongi [Bone-gee] in the Kikongo language and Congolese culture can refer to “a learning circle”. Composer, band leader, and master Congolese drummer Papa Titos Sompa will hold drumming workshops every Wednesday, starting on September 2, 2026 and ending on December 16, 2026.

Participants will learn Congolese terms for rhythms and songs, and understand the significance of the mbongi as a theory of music engagement/practice that is deeply respectful of community, promotes active listening and empathy, and foments togetherness.

Participants of all ages are welcome. No prior drumming experience required. Please dress comfortably and bring your own drum, if you have one. There will also be extra drums on hand.
